Liberty University kicker John Lunsford booted a 60-yard field goal as time expired in the Flames' homecoming game against the Richmond Spiders to send the contest into overtime on Saturday, October 4.

The Flames eventually lost 46-39 in double overtime, but the junior kicker set a personal best in distance for a made field goal as well as records for the school and the Big South Conference, according to Liberty University News Service. The kick also tied for sixth in longest field goals made for the Football Championship Subdivision.

ESPN featured the kick as the number four play of the day among its Top Ten list.

Down 15 at halftime, Liberty (3-3, 0-1 Big South) surged back to tie it at 29 in the fourth, according to the Associated Press. Richmond (3-2, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association) retook the lead on a 21–yard field goal with 11 seconds left. Liberty downed the ball on its 35 yard line on the ensuing kickoff, and completed a 22-yard reception to set up Lunsford's kick.
